Vitamin Love and Nutritional Foreplay

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

As we approach the new coming season here at the nutrition school and host our open days, we are ready to teach and share the wonders of food as medicine and the empowering impact of coaching along side with rapid relief homeopathy.

We leave no stone un-turned by integrating these core subjects when addressing health and well being. Today, we want to share a little about one of the most VITAL and CRITICAL vitamins, VITAMIN LOVE.

Any nutrition course, let alone our integrated course covers the basic MICRONUTRIENTS, which are the vitamins and minerals.

We learn about the water-soluble vitamins and the fat-soluble vitamins, the important roles that these vitamins play in so many biochemical reactions and hence our well being. We have all heard about Vitamin D and how in the last few years it has taken the position of the CEO in the vitamin world.

Vitamin D seems to have a plethora of critical roles, that were unknown to us a decade ago. These roles range from it being an anti-depressant, an anti-inflammatory through to having anti-cancer properties. So, any nutrition course would be doing a disservice if this vitamin did not get taught in all its glory and power, don’t you think? But, yet vitamin D tests do not take into consideration the various forms of vitamin D and vitamin D is actually a steroid hormone, so is it healthy or even ethical to be purchasing this hormone and taking it without knowing more? We dive into all this on this integrated nutrition course.

Here at the new school, we believe in a vitamin that is not generally covered in most nutrition courses and this is what we call VITAMIN LOVE. It may sound a bit ‘wishy-washy’ to some of us who like the biochemistry and the chemical pathways because this vitamin LOVE does not really show up in textbooks, or in the Kreb’s cycle per se, or in the flow diagram in the makeup of serotonin or oxytocin. How radical would it be to have a nutrition textbook that has the vitamin LOVE pasted in every biochemical pathway? After all most of these amazing hormones/chemicals are made from the essence of Vitamin LOVE; oxytocin is LOVE and our bodies produce this but do we get enough? No food CONTAINS this love hormone.

What is this Vitamin LOVE? What role does it really play if any?

PICTURE THIS; from the day we are birthed, we come out into this world knowing we are loved, we cry, we smile, we make noises, wiggle our body parts to get attention BECAUSE we expect someone to come and meet our needs BECAUSE we know we are LOVED. This vitamin runs in us from day one, from before we are even conceived, it is an essential SOUL NUTRIENT.

As we grow into toddlerhood, we expect applause when we start to take our first steps because we know we are LOVED, we deserve this applause, our self-esteem is at an all-time high.

Our first food, breast milk, is full of vitamin LOVE, our mother’s coo-ing noises bring us LOVE and joy, make us feel safe and understood, this gives us the energy and safety to grow, take risks, to try new foods that do not have the same VITAMIN LOVE as our very first food BUT this ‘new’ food be it pureed apples, carrots, quinoa is prepared with LOVE, it is given with attention and intention.

FAST FORWARD SOME YEARS….

How do we perceive our self worth? Do we feel LOVED? Do we have the same CORE beliefs that we did as a newborn, I AM LOVED, I am worthy of LOVE and attention OR have we become deficient in Vitamin LOVE? On this diploma course we will be doing the 'inner coaching' work in the first year under the coaching module. We will learn to recognise possible symptoms of a deficiency in Vitamin LOVE….

  • Yo-yo DIEting

  • Anorexia

  • Bulimia

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Self Sabotaging relationships/behaviours

  • Procrastination

  • Self Loathing

  • 'Comparison-itis'

  • Over-exercising

Vitamin LOVE is not available in a pill form, it is not available in a quick relationship, it is not available in a chocolate bar (although it may FEEL like it for a moment), it is not available in a DIEt, it is not available in the most organic, fresh, seasonal meal if it is prepared, or consumed without intention, attention and LOVE.

As adults, how do we prepare our meals? Do we prepare them with LOVE and intention and attention? OR do we rush them, throw them together without a thought? How do we EAT our meals? Do we eat them in front of a screen? Do we inhale our meal? OR do we take time to NOURISH our body.

Did you know there is something called the CEPHALIC PHASE of digestion which we call NUTRITIONAL FOREPLAY? This is the phase from the preparation of the meal, to before it even enters your mouth. Various senses are activated, from smell, touch, sight…this activation/sensitisation gets the body ready in anticipation of food, the salivary glands release saliva, the stomach releases acid, the pancreas releases enzymes…Vitamin LOVE is all over this nutritional foreplay.

If this is something new to you, just watch a baby who is weaning onto ‘solid foods’, he/she will play with the food, touch the food, squeeze the food, it, smell the food, look at the food, play even more with the food, It is an all-encompassing process that is exciting and joyful. ALL this takes place before the food even goes in his/her mouth. This is such a key part of nourishing our bodies.

The integrated nutrition course, teaches more than just HEALTHY EATING and the 'ins and outs' of nutritional medicine, the nutrition diploma course has a comprehensive coaching skills module that teaches these aspects of our lives. Love is such a vital ingredient.

Vitamin LOVE is the key ingredient in any meal, whether that meal is a rainbow coloured, organic, fresh, seasonal meal or from a ‘fast food joint’.

We believe we can always do with a little bit more of Vitamin LOVE.

To WHOLEness!
